Default Alternator is bad, and a whining noise

I know my alt is bad, the batt light is on and when i unplug the + terminal, the car dies. but i also have a really bad whining noise from near the alternator on the pass side but idk if it is the alt or something in the motor. anybody else ever have this problem?

So would I need to replace just the bearings? Or the whole alt? It was smoking...

alright, i got everything out of the way and all of the alt bolts off. i just have one quick question, how do you remove the alternator electrical cable and the "b+" cable? the repair manual isnt very specific. do i just pull them out or twist? and then, how do i pull the alt out? through the top or out the bottom? thanks again badvenge, i REALLY appreciate all of the help you have given me with everything

I removed mine 12 years ago to put in my 185 alternator so I forget cable removal.
I've pulled them out both ways, I prefer out the top as the manifold takes me 15 minutes
