My car broke on a 3 lane highway. I was going about 55mph and hit a huge pothole. I took the car apart tonight. Maybe the part that broke is not a ball joint. Here is a picture. Can anyone tell me what it is? Picture is on the left front (drivers side front). Broke the axle and this part.

i can tell the ball stud broke where it goes into the spindle right were the boot is. there was a recall for ball joint failure on the avengers for something related to this problem
