Does the shifter physically Move out of gear or does the tranny just not respond ?

The clicking (ratchety) sound is the solenoid pack that controls the tranny.

As for popping out of gear that sounds like an internal trouble have you had the codes pulled from the tranny ?
Have you checkked fluid level and color smell ?

See if there are codes , unfortunately these trannies seem to go into limp mode (stuck in second gear) if there are any codes. Since it sounds like you are running shifting OK just hopping into neutral I'm thinking the tranny has internal issues, I know there's a pin that works loose and causes weird issues but the teardown to get there is harder then getting a rebuilt/junkyard tranny and swapping

Hey, i was pulling in my driveway and notice the car makes the same ratchety sound when i stop but still have car in drive position. does it sound like the seloniod pack or w/e??

car actually still drives really smooth so i dont think the tranni is pooched
