Default The whining a604

I will make a short list of my projects that I have completed since my purchase, obviously with much help from this forum.

Fixed cruise control
Replaced control arms
Replaced valve cover gaskets
Replaced 2 oxygen sensors
Recovered sunroof visor
Replaced rack boots
Replaced all speakers
Installed used base spoiler
Replaced driver window motor
Replaced srs ecu
Replaced lower hose, thermostat, and coolant tank
Replaced ac control ****

Now, I have been ignoring the whine of my a604. I have read that they do it when they get around 100k miles. Mine has a faint whine at highway speed between 55 and 65 mph. Fluid looks clean and not burnt. Fluid smells normal. Should I be concerned? It shifts perfectly and doesn't slip. What are your thoughts on lucas trans treatment?

Replace the transfer side gears. There was a TSB and the new gear set will take of the whining sound at freeway speed.

Sorry, I am not familiar with the gears that you mentioned. Can this be done in the car or do I have to pull the transaxle out of the car? Is the noise dangerous or just irritating? If I am not facing gear failure, I can tolerate the whine. Can anyone chime in on the use of lucas in the a604. Can it cause harm? I found this image on the web. Are these the transfer gears?

Although I love Lucas I'd not try it in the A604 It's very picky about fluid ATF4

I did them in the car. And no they will not cause a problem other than the whining sound.

One more question. Where is the best place to buy these gears?

you can get the stratus 4cylinder gears for a little more power (different ratio)
