I have a 1995 Avenger ES and it has been running fine until last week.The transmission stuck in 2nd gear.It would shift into any other gear except 1st,3rd,and O/D. I changed the filter and fluid and it has ran fine since until yesterday.It has a bad rattle coming from the bellhousing.It sounds as if something is getting knocked around inside of it.I don't think it's serious because it still pulls and shifts fine and it stopped earlier but I drove from my house to my grandparents and it started back.I think it has something to do with the starter but I was wondering if anyone else has had a problem like this.Thanks for listening.

 

That does not sound like an issue that can be fixed without taking the tranny out from the car and having some major work done to it. I would suggest not driving it around either, unless it's to a garage to be worked on...with someone following you. I'm not sure if this is your issue, but most of the time that the A604 stays in lower gear...that's called limp mode and it's only to get you to your final destination where you need to leave it. IMHO, take it to a transmission garage because your issue isn't an easy fix. Sorry bro.
