It should. 97-00 V6 Avenger/Sebrings have 4 o2 sensors, do you have an I4?
Honestly, the best way to find out is to put her up and look under there. If you do run a straight pipe, you will get a CEL light which will give the code of a bad o2 sensor reading.
A straight pipe isn't going to do anything, performance wise, unless you've added a turbo. If you don't have a turbo, then I would just suggest a CatBack exhaust. It really isn't going to help the motor "breathe" any performance into that n/a motor. You'll just end up losing torque.
Why do you want to go with a straight pipe anyway? Just curious.

no ive got a good ol v6. but yeah, ive always heard and read that getting rid of your cat would greatly increase your horses. thats the main reason i want to go with a straight but also for the sound.

in place of the cat i was going to put a sum kind of resonator

Nope too much back pressure. Especially if you have a Naturally Asperated (N/A) car. Y do u want straight pipe on a single exhaust tuner. I don't think it wouldn't sound too good thats just from my experience. Also I hate that ricer sound, making all that sound expecting the car to be half way down the road but it putting along next to you just buzzing away.

This is true for a turbo'd motor or a bigger motor but not the 2.5L, sorry bro.
There's not too much that would give this motor too much zing without a turbo. Cheap, reliable, and powerful...there's only one item at a time that you can remove from that, but you can't remove two items. That's just a rule of thumb and so is..."you gotta pay to play".
CatBack exhaust, underdrive pulley, larger throttle body, CAI, high stall torque converter, shift kit will all make a difference for the auto 2.5L but they all still won't net you anything impressive, even if you built the motor with forged internals.
IMO, leave the cat in place and make a Catback exhaust. It's just going to hurt the performance if you put a free flow exhaust on it. The resonator isn't a cat, it's a resonator and it changes the tone of the exhaust note. It still won't help with keeping a little back pressure. This has been debated in the Avenger/Sebring community for years and the only ones that ever said that it needs to breathe better were the guys who were new to this car and motor (no offense). The guys who've "been around awhile and been around the block" were the ones stating that it won't help, but only hurt.

Let's try this.
If you were in an airless chamber and you were given an o2 tank that was filled with just enough for a one time breath. After you inhale it, you will have to exhale it too right? Well, you've just been given a full breath.
Now, same scenerio, different circumstances.
Now the o2 tank is only filled with 1/2 a breath but you're expected to exhale a full breath, do you think you can do it comfortably? I bet not.
Without the back pressure, you car will be trying to "exhale" a full breath from 1/2 the intake.

Anything to help a fellow owner.
The real hurdle is getting an exhaust manifold to match with any given turbo, well, not the manifold but the flange. That itself really isn't that hard either. There's a "sticky" FAQ above the Avenger forum that has a list of things to mod. From the exterior to the motor, you'll find turbo kits in the resource list. You can also have a local shop make a manifold for you too. It's not cheap btw, but power is hardly cheap to get or have

Yup "Speed cost money, how fast do you want to go?" I've seen sum guy online Cardomain.com with a yellow venge who will bore out you throttle body. I forgot the full details and don't know old the forum is but u could check that out. You said you already have a CAI, from there your best bet is a Turbo like siver said. We have no chips that work for us and that whole "Turbonado" thing IDK sounds pretty lame. But a Turbo System your looking to speed at least 3 large (3 G's). Trust me dog just pay it. I just helped fixed this idiots cracked block. Tried to be cheap and just buy the turbo no intercooler, no cold air intake, boost control nadda!, on a honda civic. Now he has fried piston rings, sh!^^y valves that barley seal, bad rod journals and a hole in his hood that he put there to make room for his waste gate, got the block tho replaced!
I guess you live and learn.
