Default Tune-up Qusetions

Does it take a while for the computers to just after spark-plug replacement?
I got a good deal on my 96 Venger but it has a few minor issues
I think I need to change the O2 sensors because the ECL is on but the car ran fine, until I changed the plugs now it starts a little rough and the tack is bouncing at an idle. And it smells like it is running rich.
I replaced the plugs with champion platinum’s
The tack is only bouncing about 50 RPM's up and down.
It did not do this before I changed the plugs.

Thanks
Sean

did you make sure you gapped your plugs to the right spec?? i know mine acted like that too untill i drove it and really drove it hard.. it stoped haveing that rough start so bad. but my PCM was through with its life span lol.. i had a cel and a batt light on and a really bad idle problem i put new pcm in and it runs like a champ..

what are the codes the cel gives you try the on off on off on method with the key to see what it gives you

Ok time to throw the New hayne's manual in the trash!!!! (I bought after the CEL returned)
They show the front sensor on the exaust manifold by the oil dip stick there is not one there for me.
Unless its on the back side
On my 96 2.5L Venger I found 2 O2 sensor's 1 before the CAT one after I replaced the one before if anyone knows of another spot it could be hidden I would be greatful for the help

Hi Slhomer,
How did you come to the P0135 number? If you picked it up in the book, you're 1/2 right, lol. Mil code 21 can be any one of the o2 sensors. If you're car is running fine, chances are that the rear o2 is bad...the one after the Cat. That one isn't as important as the upstream one because the upstream tells the computer whether you're running rich or lean and allows the ECU to compensate for it. The rear o2 tells the computer that the Cat is either working or not and that's about it, but that isn't always correct either because the o2 could be dead itself.
MIL code 12 just means that power was disconnected.
MIL code 55, as you stated, means "end of fault code(s)".
All the manuals don't show every variant of configuration these motors came with. There are some that are just different. I have both over the counter manuals and both volumes of the 97 service manual and the service manual covers just as much as the over the counter ones btw. Trust me, those over the counter manuals are enough to get you running again. The service manuals have great breakdowns of the motor and every other component, but even it doesn't have all the configurations. All these manuals "teach you to fish", it's up to you to learn it
The MIL codes are a good way to narrow and help pinpoint the actual problem along with the book(s). You've already changed out the upstream o2, so the rear is the only one left. You're lucky that you don't have 4 like I did. Look all along your exhaust (up front) for o2 sensors you may have more. I had two in the back and two in the front of the downpipes.

Thanks Silver I knew you would have the answers
I got the 12,21 and 55 from the key test Then had it scanned and it came up with the PO135 which says Upstream O2S Heater Failure from this site

http://www.troublecodes.net/chrysler...20253335.shtml
It has all the code's for all make's and models

Im old school hot rods so all these sensors are a pain in the A$$

Ill change out the rear and cross my fingers cause the CEL is really annoying at night....

Thanks
Sean

When you do the keydance, does it still show the 21 code? Make sure that you drive the car for at least 50miles for the computer to reconfigure itself before you change the rear o2, that would be the only thing I would do.
