You can replace the lifters or use synthetic oil (temp fix) like Mobil 1 or Royal Purple and the likes.

It's not really anything to dreadful, just a matter of taking off the valve covers (and everything above them) and then, you're there. Just have a torque wrence and the manual handy and ready to go. Don't forget to get new gaskets and spark plug tube seals, since you'll have to remove the valve covers, the plenum uses a metal one, so you won't have to worry about that one, just be careful taking it off and don't bend it.
If it were me though, I'd have everyting replaced since I'll be there and everything will have to be removed anyway...might as well replace with new stuff...then, poof, no more lifter tick

Ok silver i dont even think it is my lifters ticking anymore i am not hearing the nosie from my heads but i hear the nosie real loud when i put my ear right where my power steering resivor is. its not by the engine but by my passenger wheel.. and this is when the car is in park and just idling. its a lite thump sorda a loud tick maybe. what is around there that will cause that ticking noise? abs light is on could it be the abs pump thingie or is there something like that that will cause a ticking slash loud little thunk????

thanx for all the help again

I think I know what you're talking about, mine was doing the same thing, but then it stopped all of a sudden.
If I remember correctly, there a solenoid or canister in front of the wheel well and just below the headlights. I forget what it was for...I want to say that it was EGR related, but to be honest with you I forgot
Let me see what I can find/remember and I'll get back to you.
I do believe that what you are saying is right though, because I can remember there being a "loud" ticking that came from that area. I don't think it to be the PS pump though. I don't remember..is the ABS control block on that side? I ask because I thought it was on the driver's side.
Anyway, let me see what I can find for you.

i would think it is the evap solenoid. you can get a new one but there's a good chance the new one will do it as well. you can check it by leaving your gas cap a little loose. it won't make the noise but your check engine light will typically come on because it will not see a pressure drop.

yeah its the evap solenoid. my 97 does the same thing. anyone with a 99 in here? i heard the solenoids on those ones don't tick. i checked at the dealer today and the part numbers are different for the 97s and 99s. anyone know if they are interchangeable. if so, im putting a solenoid from a 99 in mine.
