eclipse help
My buddy has a 1995 Eclipse 2.0 5 speed. I know this is for dodges but all I need to know is where and what the secondary air solenoid circuit includes b/c the motors are the same. My manual has the code P0412 which is the sas but the sas itself is not shown so I don't have a clue. All I know is it won't run and that's the code it's throwing. any help is greatly appreciated so I can stop chauffering him around.
P0412: Secondary AIR solenoid circuit fault
Vin Y
Monitor run conditions (Enable Criteria)
1) Battery voltage greater than 10 volts
2) Engine running
Why did this code set?
1) The task manager detected that the AIR solenoid circuit was not in its proper state
when commanded on by the PCM.
What should you look for?
1) Check AIR solenoid resistance ( Apprx. 30-40 ohms )
2) Check for proper wiring and connector conditions at solenoid
3) Check for proper vacuum hose routing.

It's most likely something more commonly known as...something else and AIR solenoid is just the technical term for it because you got me.
What was the last thing your buddy did to his motor? That might help narow it down a bit.
Oh yeah, we are talking about the 420a and not the 4g64 or 4g63 correct?
I dont know about thevin I will check and yes it is a 420A sorry I forgot to mention that. We used a scanner and my manual to read the code.He said he couldnt get the key dance to work but i will try it today.I also thought it might be a technical term but it has to do with some kind of air pump and relays and solenoid or at least the one wiring diagram I found said that but it was for some chevy van or something so. As for what he did he was driving at about 55-60 and the power steering and altenator belt broke and when it did it broke the timing belt dust cover and a piece of it caused the car to jump time.It ruined every one of the intake valves and messed the head up. Hehad the head replaced and it still wouldn't run so the guy said it might be in the ignition. In the end he has replaced the spark plugs, spark plug wires, crankshaft position sensor and some other odds and ends. I went over there last night and its getting fire and gas but it wont start and thats the code its throwing.
It does have a y in the vin. I did the key dance and it gave me a code 36. Which is a secondary air injection solenoid. So maybe I can find out more info now that I know about the injection part of it.

I'll look around some more.
Oh, found something. P0412 is an Emision issue. So, start check the emission equipment for things not plugged in.
**Scratch that, CEL 36 (found it btw, lol). The diagnostic item is the ignition timing adjustment signal and the troubleshooting states to check the harness and connector.
Are you sure that the motor was physically timed correctly while everything was being put back together? The cams and gears that is, not after it was put back together.**

Sorry it took me so long to respond. The next day a friend of his checked the car while we were at school and you were right, that idiot that worked on it didn't have it in time. He said, " The machine shop didn't put slits in the valves so the head is not breathing." I have worked on alot of cars and rebuilt alot of motors b/c my family does all their own work and I have never heard such bull. He was trying to cover his own tail. Unless DSM cars are different I have never seen a valve with a slit in it. Wouldn't that defeat the purpose b/c it wouldn't seal right?
There's a patent on slit valves, lol.

I don't know if it's being used, but I know that my 4g63 doesn't have them. Sounds fishy to me. Not having the motor timed isn't a small issue either. Just be glad that there are shops out there that aren't that bad, lol.
I'm glad your buddy got it figured out, but, what now? Did he get it timed and running right again?

That one guy is supposed to come and do it but hasn't shown up all week. I have the manual and I know how to time the 6G73 so if that guy doesn't show and I ever get time I am going to go time it but my schedule doesn't look free in the near future but I will let you know if that is the problem and if it fixes it or notwhen I find out anythingthanx.
