I got the Dakota a big brother!
I know this is offtopic, so I'll start by saying if anyone has a problem with this being posted here, speak up and I'll move it or delete it (you won't hurt my feelings!)...
Since I'm only about half way done with the solid axle swap on the Dakota, and I really needed something to drive, I got another truck. I found this 1979 Ford F150 on craigslist and bought it. It has a 351 Modified small block, c6 3 speed automatic transmission, dana 44 front axle with manual locking hubs, ford 9 inch rear axle with a locker (don't know what type) sitting on 35x12.50x15 BFG KM mud terrains on black bullet hole wheels. The body is rough, but it runs great. The engine and transmission were recently rebuilt and I just got done changing out the ball joints and steering rods. It has a 2 barrel carb with a mechanical choke, but it came with a eldebrock 4 bbl intake manifold, so I'm thinking of putting a 600 cmf holley 4 bbl on it. Anyway, here are some pics...
And the 2 trtucks side by side...

Yeah, its my favorite year too!! And that body style isn't easy to find since they were only made for 2 years.
It won't be for too long!!! I've been looking into manual transmission swaps and I really want to get an 80s Ford ZF 5 speed with PTO. I want to hook up a hydraulic pump to the PTO and put a hydraulic winch on the truck. But for now, I just want to find the transmission. My local U-Pull-It has a '79 that was a manual with the pedal assembly and steering column still in it. When the weather cools down I'm going back there to yank all that stuff out.
But, the c6 was just rebuilt and is still under warrenty, so I can't really justify yanking it out of there right now.

That is a good deal!! Knowing me I probably would have passed it up just cause of the year. I hate OBDII and will avoid owning one as long as possible. I just don't like a computer having that much control over a vehicle. It just seems like they're catering modern cars and trucks to those people out there who can't drive and know nothing about the machine they're driving, which sucks for those of us who can drive and do know about them.
I love how simple this truck is! It has a 2 bbl carb with mechanical choke and a mechanical fuel pump. There are like 3 wires running through the truck! The first day I had it, it cooked 2 ignition coils. The first one I thought it was a bad ignition coil, the second one I figured out there was something else wrong and discovered it had a bad voltage regulator and needed a ballist resistor. $60 and 10 minutes later it was back up and running strong. Had it been a modern OBDII vehicle, it would have taken days to track down an electrical problem like that! Its just so easy to work on.
