Default Two things

1. Either i'm just now noticing, or people are just now buying 1st gens, but around my house there is a TON of nice first gens prowling around. Just an odd thing i'm putting out there.

2. I wanted some opinions about going offroad in a 2wd V6 dakota. Nothing to extreme, but i was just wondering if it would hold up to low grade dirt road hills, etc. i live in michigan, and up north theres nice trails. but i'd rather not get stranded up there and have to call my dad. That wouldnt be too good. I've driven with my buddy and his dad in his bronco and it handled it with ease, but that was 4x4 V8. Basically i'm just wondering what the limitations are, lol. thanks for your input guys

I very seldom use 4 wheel drive when I am hunting or playing around. That way, If I do get in to a pickle, I can fall back on 4 wheel drive to get me out. With a good set of tires you can go through alot as long as its not muddy or snow.

Offroading is alot of skill, and not just the vehicle you are driving.

And if you just bought your dakota, that is why you are noticing them so much more.

Ya once you got a new vehicle or looking for one you see them everywhere.

Ya 2wd can get you pretty much anywhere you need. The key is momentum, once you loose it that is when you can get stuck.

A locker in the rear diff will help. As well as good Mud/All terrain tires. Air down your tires if needed more traction. Tire chains could help too. Don't get cocky and stick to the safe trails. When parking try to park on a hill or a incline so you can roll down a bit.

Carrying shovels, tow ropes some 4x4 wood in case you need it, a come along if wanted. And don't forget the cell phone. It is always best to go out with someone too.

True statement, I have noticed this countless times. As soon as you or someone you know buys a particular kind of car, you start seeing them everywhere. Its not that they weren't there before, you just never paid attention to them.

As far as off roading in a 2wd, mine has Trail Guide A/P all terrain tires, and I have hit up a few mild trails when its dry without problems. Just dont go out when its muddy.

the last time i went out it had just rained i made it through just fine, but its like crazy said keep the momentum. i unfortunately did not have enought and got stuck in a muddy hole but managed to rock it out. the final straw to that trip was when we hit deep ruts and bottomed out and then the cops showed up...thats as far as i'm going with that statement...lol
