I love my old 96 5.2 automatic 4wd 249,638 miles on the clock. Back when it was young at 224,000 miles I think I got 20 mpg on a trip, driving slow, using the cruise through the mountains of Nevada and Arizona. Mostly tho, in Tucson which has more stop lights than trees, it gets ~14 mpg.

It's been relegated to second team status as my town ride is a Prius.

My 97 SLT 5.2L with a topper. 205K, I got 14 mixed in city, 17 interstate average. Always ran premium gas.

Perhaps replacing the PCM would solve it...

Last measured 340 mile round trip to NE Iowa and back got over 21mpg. Mixed 65/60 mph driving. Truck was not empty either.

94 3.9L AT

Steve

EDIT: forgot to mention this was post new O2 sensor installed. Runs so much better now with that and much better mpg. Before this was only able to obtain 14mpg or so.

Depending on weather and my driving, 14 to 18 MPG. 1988 Dodge Dakota 3.9L 32RH automatic 2.94 rear end, and just about a 1/2 ton load ...

I get 8 mpg and roughly 9-10 mpg on highway. Not exact because gas gauge is broken

Unless you are driving a truck with a V-10, you should be able to do a LOT better than that......

You have other problems, then.

Unless you just drive like a maniac.

How old is the tune up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor)? Air filter? What grade oil (5W20 or 5W30 will be better for gas mileage than 20W50)?

Do you have your upstream O2s still? (I've met several on line that don't and wonder why the truck sucks ... )

What do you carry in the back?

2WD or 4WD? Which motor? Which transmission? How are the brakes?
