The 99 should mount to the exact same motor mounts in the same spot as the 3.9 does, since the 3.9 is a shortened LA block.

If it were an older 360, then you may have problems, but by 1999, all blocks were supposed to have the mounting bosses.

That is, the motor mounts will bolt to the BLOCK the same - the RAM mounts won't fit the Dakota without work.

I'd use new motor mounts, natch, instead of the old tired V6 mounts.

No, it is not.

It is that you're trying to fight redoing the mounts when you don't have to.

See the FAQ here - from 1991 to 1997, the 3.9/5.2/5.9 all used the same motor mounts!

You should be able to use new V6 mounts on the 5.9.

Matter of fact ... checking RockAuto, the same motor mounts were used on the V6 and V8 for the 1991-1996 4WD, and the 2WD used the same motor mounts from 1987 to 1996 (!!!). (1991 had a different mount for the front diff, I bet.)

Unbolt those motor mounts you have from the BLOCK, and use new V6 mounts TO THE BLOCK, and you should be good to go.

Why, no, the RAM doesn't use the same motor mounts. So trying to fit the frame/diff side between the two will take work. Why bother, when the MOTOR side is the same?

Or are you trying to do more work for the sake of doing more work?

Ralph, When I look at Rock Auto's website, I believe it shows part no. A5294 and A2944 for the 87-90 v-6 4wd Dakota. They show A2955 and A2961 for the 91-96 v-8 4wd Dakota. Then they show A2953 and A2983 for the v-6 4wd 91-96 Dakota.
So according to them, they all seem to be different. Don't know if they will interchange or not....... but the part numbers are different.
Also, I am assuming the OP does have a 89 truck

I presume he's got a 1989 truck also since he lists that.

The front suspension was different for 1991 to 1996.

For 2WD, Anchor 2652 is the same for 1987 to 1996 3.9 V6.

For 4WD, they do list A5294 and A2944 for the 4WD, yes.

Suspension changed for 4WD in 1991, so the V6 4WD got a different motor mount, yes.

HOWEVER - the 1991-1996 2WD V8 got Anchor ... 2652! ( http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/rafr...&parttype=5552 for the 1995 for a quick check.)

So yes, the V8s got a stouter mount for 4WD, but it also got a beefier suspension and stouter axles.

OP is talking about grafting the V8 into a 1989 front suspension, which never had the V8 on the 4WD. However, the V6 mounts will fit and work.

(If you want to be that persnickty, he also needs V8 springs up front, because his V6 springs will sag a bit. Oops. Also the beefier diff and axles and brakes.)

Not trying to be persnickety, as I am planning a similar motor change myself. Just trying to understand what fits.
So he would keep the mounts for the 87-90 and bolt those to the magnum block?
Also, for the springs, the 87-90 use a torsion bar. Not sure what the 91 up use. I have not been able to locate a heavier torsion bar, so I guess cranking it up may do the trick.

91 up 4x4 use torsion bars too. You should be fine with using a stock V8 torsion bar. I want to drop a 5.9 or 4bt into my Dak once the 3.9 blows xD
