Default inner tie rod replacement

Gonna do both inner/outer tie rods on the 89 and after watching several Youtube videos... I've got the procedure. One thing.. the inner tie rods I have, use a set screw. On NONE the videos I watched did anyone bother to put it in. They just torqued the rod to 85ft/lbs and went on with the rest. If I have room I'll insert mine, but is it a tragedy if it doesn't get used?

thanks...

I just did mine....factory tie rods don't have them. New ones do. There's enough room even if the screw ends up on the back side to get an allen wrench on them. What I did like about the factory ones is that it had six flat surfaces so it was easy to get off with a standard crescent. The new ones are only flat on two sides so you have to use an inner tie rod tool to tighten.

thanks...... actually the new ones I got from RockAuto (mevotech I think).. are six sided. I have the tie rod tool from Autozone, but its weird.. uses different sized spacers and its going to be a pain to use. eh.. I'll manage. Heck the boots are as much as the tie rod.

I just picked mine up at Advance as I was in a hurry....actually two different brands and they were both the 2 sided variety. Fortunately, my boots were perfectly in tact.
