Thanks for the heads up, yes there is even mention of this in the ATSG overhaul manual in that there are markings that have to be indexed to the number of teeth on the gear being used.

Also it's important to note the thickness of the steels and frictions used in the overdrive, the wrong clearances will be an early death. Another thing to keep an eye on when using parts from a donor trans where parts may differ, the rear thrust washer used on the overdrive piston located at the rear of the case comes in various thickness's.

That overdrive piston thrust washer affects reaction time.

MoPar has had problems keeping the overdrive unit cooled, over heating in the number one killer. There have been several modifications the the overdrive over the years in an attempt to keeping it cooler.

Probably explains why our 04 Dodge 1500 has a huge transmission oil cooler that is independent from the radiator.

Purchased a cheap hydraulic press from Princess Auto, same junk Harbour Freight sells in the US also about three years ago bought the transmission jack.

The hydraulic press is a joke, once it was all bolted together the frame wobbled, I squared it up then welded the sucker together.

Made this tool yesterday afternoon at the farm.

This is what has me concerned about tire size and differential ratio.

Interesting in that should this module fail for some reason the signal is then picked up off the ABS braking system.

Here's a link to the best repair and diagnostic manual for the 46RE, 47RE and 48Re's that I have found, this is the manual from which I'm doing my rebuild from.

I'm willing to bet that 95 percent of the transmission shops do not build to spec, even a sloppy rebuild will outlast its warranty date.

Trans Go shift kit came with additional instructions on how to supply more cooling oil onto the overdrive clutches. Opening up those holes shown in the image below would be a good modification even of your not installing the shift kit.

You'll need a good quality dril lto break through the case hardening.

Next tool the Miller Bar, the parallel bar is .500" and the round bar is 5.500" if your reading this you'll know its use.

Half inch cold rolled flat bar measures slightly under .500" if I remove from the round bars total length 5.500" to match that of the missing few thousands of the cold rolled flat bar thickness my calliper measurements should be bang on to use the chart below to determine spacer thickness required.End Play Measurement Spacer Thickness
Transtar Part# last six digits.
--------------------------------------------------------
.7336 - .7505 .158 - .159 12708A
.7506 - .7675 .175 - .176 12708B
.7676 - .7855 .193 - .194 12708C
.7856 - .8011 .211 - .212 12708D

Excellent document describing how to check the intermediate shaft and the overdrive application piston fro the correct selective end play shim.

The document is complete with charts for the shims.

Ya don't need a miller bar.
