96 Dakota 2wd V6 to V8 swap
Raybestos, and ACDelco, were both using Spicer Pro for their professional grade.
They're still using the same parts, but Raybestos has gotten out of suspension parts as far as I know.
I've got nothing against ACD Pro! I was mentioning ProForged because before Holley bought them, they were 'The Little Guy Who Done Did Good' Even now, I'll use them if I have a choice first.

When shopping for parts, I always try to get high quality. Cripes, all the work that is involved in replacing parts why would anyone want to put crap back on unless they're unloading the vehicle. Sometimes parts choices are very limited or weak. What's nice about ACD Pro (in addition to be high quality parts) is they seem to be everywhere. So if you need a control arm, for example, and your only choices are Fred's Wholesale or Wemakedung Auto Parts, it's a huge relief to see ACD as a third option. That's happened more than once with me.
EBay is famous for offering crap on their website. I'm even seeing it on Amazon. I'm talking about parts that have no brand or manufacturer listed and cost 1/3rd of what the brand names are. I steer clear of those like the covid. I'll go in a cave and mine my own iron ore and forge my own parts before I buy that crap. Sadly though, as our trucks age, I'm seeing more and more of that. Also zero options in some cases (as this thread is pointing out).
I'm looking at a 5.9L VIN 5 with 80k miles. I see that VIN 5 is labeled to be heavy duty rather than a light duty VIN Z.
Is a 5.9L VIN 5 good for my Dakota street rod application?
Thanks!

I don't think there were a lotta differences between the z, and the 5. The heavy duty version used two O2 sensors, instead of just one, (one for each bank) and I *think* it also had an AIR pump. (air injection reactor, heats up the cat quicker.) So far as I know, HP/TQ numbers were the same.
Is the trans model listed on the hood tag? Lift the hood and take a peek.
I don't have the truck and I don't know what it came out of. I purchased that was sold to me as a 5.9 with a 46re - although the engine is a 518 :-(
Now I'm trying to determine if the trans is really a 46re...
Thanks for your feedback and assistance.

I'd check the pan shape ...
Your 'Guide' to the 727/904 transmission | For B Bodies Only Classic Mopar Forum and go about, oh, 20% down or so; there's a picure of the A904/A99x/A500 pan gasket and the A727/A518 pan gasket.
Second, check the connectors - see how many pins it has in the solenoid connector. If the most you can find is 3 pins, it's a RH. If one has more than 3 pins, it's probably a RE.
I presume you meant "the engine is a 318".
BTW - The TRANSMISSION is the same 5.2/5.9 - the TORQUE CONVERTER and/or flex plate change due to the 5.9 being externally balanced, and the 5.2 internally balanced.

Thanks Ralph - I will check it out and yes I meant 318.
Additionally, Hey You had replied a while back and stated the following: "You REALLY want the 46RE. (and it has to be 96 or 97 as well, so you have the provision for the VSS on the tailshaft housing.) There are a LOT of upgrade options for the 46RE trans. "
Do you know if I were to procure a 96 or 97 46RE with the VSS tailshaft hole for the sensor - do I need to mate it with a similar year 5.9 or can the 5.9 be newer as long as I have the engine harness and computers from the engine year that I purchase?
Not sure if that makes sense, but I'm trying to avoid incompatibility issues between the 5.9 and the A/T electronics (ie VSS). I believe I read that the vehicles newer than 96 or 97 have speed sensor on the rear diff.
Thanks again for your feedback and expertise!
