Well, I know that when I had my '89 Dak with the 3.9L (this was about 7years ago)I was only getting 200 milesfor every 15 gallons of gas which is right in the 13 mpg range. According to what mine was getting I would say that yours is normal.

idk my dads 96 was gettin like 17 or maybe a little more on the highway, but i think its a different v6, they did something to change it a little so maybe thats y but he never got mileage that bad, and even with my truck the lowest ive gotten is 14 so idk 13 is not that much lower than 14 tho so i may be normal

i get 15 on highways but it drastically drops down to maybe 10/11 on back roads. been that way since new for the highway driving, the winter additives seems to kill the milage i am getting now for the short commute to work i have on back roads. the price of gas dropped, but it seems im using 50 percent more. maybe its time to replace the origional plugs and wires : )

My own experience has been to change to Mobil1 synthetic oil in the crankcase, use a K&N air filter, NGK V groove sparkplugs and put Royal purple synthetic oil in the rear end....my girl friends 96 dakota sport 4x4 with 3.9 V6 is getting 24 MPG as of april 4th...before all the above it was getting 16/18 approx

you're right in the ball park, everything I've read says that these trucks are supposed to get between 14 to 16 when correctly tuned its rare to see anything higher...
