Ok, My transmission doesn't want to go inot 3rd gear and i have no first gear, when i come to a stop it will automaticly start in 2nd gear, in order for me to go in reverse i have to pretty much floor it to get it to move. 1st gear is completely locked up, i manually put it in first it moves about a foot and locks, tries to move forward but is at a complete stop like the brakes are locked, I've replaced the fluid and filter but accidently put mercon in it because the autozone told me to use that, i later read the forums here about using atf 3/4 so today i am changing the fluid again to atf 4 my tranny is a 4-speed automatic a500 engine 3.9l v6 any help appreciated.

 

***UPDATE*** Just got home from work and was about to head to store when my transmission is stuck in gear, In park, truck goes forward, in reverse truck goes forward, in neutral truck goes forward, in drive truck goes forward, (obviously) etc. I NEED ANY HELP ASAP PLEASE!!! If I don't get this fixed today i won't be able to go to work! PLEASE HELP!

As Peckens states most likely shot. But check the linkage first. Same thing happened to me. A part of the linkage came off. Under on the drivers side between the tranny and frame is linkage that is held in place by a plastic keeper. Mine fell off. Longshot but check it out. If that is it I have the perfict fix.

 

What has happen in inside the transmission there two drum assy's, one is to holdand the other rotates. Well your transmission has welded the two drums together causing to move in neutral and reverse. Time for a reman trans. and flush the cooler lines, you may also replace the one ck valve too.

 

ok, what it seems to be doing is in reverse it is going into first gear not drive, in neutral it is in drive, drive it is also in drive, park i'm not too sure what it is in, but i know it is not in park. I am letting the computer reset thinking that maybe after the fluid flush the computer has not been retrained, and i am also going to check the linkage

 

This sounds like a linkage problem as I posted.

checked the linkage, nothing adjusted it since it needed to be anyway, was only starting in neutral 90% of time, that's fixed, but still nothing. Park stays in a still position but revs like it is drive with the parking brake on, reverse seems almost like it wants to go in reverse but also backwards, and all other gears are forward

 

hey guys, been a while since i posted, I haven't had time for my truck but I have an update. I replaced the tranny, but now the linkage is jammed up inside the tranny, and I can't move it in or out of gear. Also After replaceing the tranny we knocked the timing off, so i have to replace my timing chain, no biggy, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to fix my linkage prob.

im glad you got it fixed, i cant help with the linkage cause i have no clue but dont listen to dumbasses at the store, make sure you know what your own truck needs, they will tell you anything if they dont know, good luck!!!!
