Default Starting issue

Hello, I have a 93 dakota V8 4x4 my first truck love the thing to death. Until recently I have had issues with it but I still think its bad none the less. Ok what happened is I was going down my drive way one day and out of no where the truck dies just dies. So I try and start it and it just sits there and cranks. I have my dad get his dodge and pulls me out of the way. Couple hours later starts right up. So I let it idle while im hooking up a trailer and dies again and won't start. So I change the fuel filter no effect and then I changed my distributor cap and rotor, after that it started right up but was idling rough and the smell of buring oil. So I drove around a little bit and then it died again and wouldn't start. But now I can go out there and start up anytime just fine but still idle rough but im afraid its gonna die again and I don't know what to do next. Any help u could offer would be very helpful.

thx

ya it does have a crank sensor. I know it has an ECM some where so if I can find that I can take look at the PCM thx a lot I will see if that helps.
