Default Carb. motor swap

I know there are alot of carb. 318 and 360 swaps on here and i was just wondering some stuff. What trans missions are you guys using, i dont really know alot about dodge transmissions. i am also guessing that you have to change all of the gauges around because the factory ones will not work. If i have left anything else out that you have to change can you let me know because i am getting ready to do a swap in my 96 3.9 auto.

Hey man, I don't know anything about swapping engines and all that jazz, I just wanted to ask you a question. Or a few; in regards to your signiture.

What's a Jet stage 2 Chip? Does it make a difference? Did the K&N plus Ram Air make a a difference? What about that different thermostat? I'm just trying to learn more about these trucks, I like mine, but I wanna know what I can do to it.

The chip made a pretty good difference, it shifts better and has more power. The K&N did some stuff too. The thermostat changed the power and brought the gas milage down a little. For the stage two jet chip they reccomend intake and exahust modification and a lower temp thermostat. hope that helps.

most people use a 727 tranny. some still use the stock 3.9 tranny and it holds up if your not abusing it.

I dont know too much about the guages though.

and I would get a 180 stat. a 160 seems to low it wont let your engine get to operating temp.

I replied to your E-mail, Bad96.

As for the abuse on the stock trans, I beat the tar out of mine and it holds up no problem. You just need to build it properly.

Some of the original gauges will still work.

What about engine mounts?
Does the 360 fit where the 3.9L was or are modifications necessary?

I would go with the 4spd standard trans or the 5spd standard trans, I havent had good luck with my 727's 3spd auto, personally I think the 4spd auto 4x4 is way to go if your looking for an auto. Replaced the 727 tranny twice in my 85 dodge. The tranny just went out in my slant 6 which is also a 3 spd auto, I also abuse my 4spd tranny WAY more than my 727's.
