Default shift kit for 46RE

I'm thinking of installing a shift kit in my dakota. Has anyone done one in theirs? How well did it work? I would like it to bark second under WOT. Just wanted some feedback before pulling the trigger. I think B&M has a $30 and a $60 kit. Not bad pricing if it helps firm up the shifts.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

As far the a 46re I dont know how well it would do but I would guess good. I had put a **** kit into my transam with a th350 and that feels good while shifting. So if it is $30 or $60 I think its worth it. Go for it!!!!

what does a shift kit do? I've always wondered that, does it increase miliege? or just make quick upshifts?

It firms up the upshifts. Just think of a standard transmission being shifted aggressively. A good shift kit will make a car/truck "catch a second" when running WOT. It will not help with mileage but can extend the life of the tranny.

I would think a shift kit would lower a trans life expectancy, at least that's what happened with one of my vehicles.

I'm not really a tranny guy but smooth shifts are longer shifts thus slipping the clutches a bit. A firm quick shift will actually keep the tranny from slipping the clutches as much when shifting. Think about shifting a standard transmission. This is especially important when under a heavy load such as towing or drag racing. Maybe atranny guy could chime in with some thoughts.

I only installed one on my th350 and it was not to hard. The instuctions that came with it walked you through it step by step.
