pre-magnum peformance help
hi, im new to the truck world, i recently bought a 91 dakota sport 4x4 and i dont have it yet but would like some ideas on what to do performance wise. I plan on running headers with true dual through a set of glasspacks or something and would like to get a LSD for the rear. I was also wondering if i could get a set of magnum heads and swap them onto my pre-magnum and what it would involve. Also would magnum headers fit on my pre-magnum? How much would a LSD cost? Should i keep stock gears? I dont have plans on serious off-roading. I do a fair bit of highway driving but still want the low end power.
what do i need to know about swapping the stock cam for something better?
thanks

I have heard that the mag. will fit the pre mag. as far as v8s go. I dont know about v6, which im guessing what you have. I would suggest is get a set of head gaskets to both and compair. A LSD might be about 500 or so. You could get a richmond Lock Right for 300. I have it, they work great. The only thing It is a full time locker so when you press on the gas it will stay locked up. but when you make a corner and let off of the gas it will unlock so you can make it. I would say step up just a little for rear end gears. If yo go to high you loss the highway speeds.
shiat... i was so busy trying to get everything typed down that was in my head i forgot to mention that it has the 318 and i would just swap it out for a magnum exept the truck only has 131xxx km wich would be about 80 xxx ish miles i think
my biggest consern is if i start addin magnum parts is if my stock computer would cause me problems. Also what rear end gears would u recomend? i do want to keep my gas milage or as much as i can because for winter it will be takeing me 80km's every day....
ive been doing research and from what i can seem to figure is the magnums just had a diff top end but the bottem was still the same? so it seems that stuff should be very simialer.
p.s - i was looking at these JET Stage 2 chips.....

I was thinking about putting magnum heads on my 318 i am building, but according to allpar.com the pushrod geometry is a little to steep, so it is really easy to bend the pushrods. your heads flow pretty good on that engine, they have the spiral ports in them, i would just shave them down to bump up the compression, that is all i am doing anyways. I would reccomend getting the mopar performance computer insted of the jet stage 2, i have one and i wish i went with the new comp.!
yes i was reading about the mopar performance comp but i also read that you then need to run premium fuel, and that is something im not willing to do all the time..... i thought maybe the jet chip would show slight gains without the need of better fuel....
i dont know im just really learning as i go here
and thanks for the head info...i thought i went through allpar.com and couldnt find anything about the gen 1 dakotas, ill have to have another look sometime.

easy hp. take the shield of the intake. use a roto tool to cut out the center of the imtake block. cover with chicken wire to keep out bugs. put back on.. bang. you got rednek air induction.
