Lol yea I don't really want to lock the rear end, I think I might just add LSD to it because I've been in my diff before to change a seal right behind the hub and I could never get those bearings out without a tourch for the life off me, but everything for the mileage I have had looks great.

I have added weight and have taken it out and have never noticed a difference, when it snows, once I get going I pretty much have to drift every single turn or I just end up going straight into the snow..... but nothing wrong with drifting.... Thanks for your guys input.

For me, it's just about going slow & taking the time plan out your route if you are going to a place you head to often (i.e. work). Weight in the back end always helps. I tend to use sandbags and 5 Gal pails filled with gravel (the pails are nice since you can dip into the gravel to put under your tires if you get stuck sometimes).

Of course there are some things you'll just never be able to overcome. Where are you located? I'm up in North Dakota, last year we had a nice quiet winter until January when we got dumped on by 12" of snow in my area in 24 hours....and then 2 weeks later got another 8" of the fluffy white crap. A 2wd just doesn't have much hope at that point if your roads aren't cleared in a reasonable amount of time. At that point, it just helps to have a buddy with a 4wd that'll come get you.

Im in IL the chicago land area and our snow rate is about as relieable as a ford pinto not exploding, but it's no where near as bad as you have had it, still snow fall fing sucks in a one tire fire truck I really envy those 4wd'ers

what do you do to get better traction in the snow
Switch rides!

My daily driver is a '99 Intrepid ES. It's good up to 6" or 7", maybe 10" if i use the cable chains, depending on how wet it is. But when the white stuff really starts flying:

<3 feet:

1980 1/2 Ton 4x4, 440 (906 heads) with .484/284 purple cam, performer intake, performer 750 CFM carb, MSD ignition, true 2.5" duals (straight), NP 435 trans, NP208 T-case, 9.25" rear/spicer 44 front with 3.55's and spools (bitch to turn). 4" lift and 35x12.50's. Got 1/2" link chains for all four.

>3 feet:

1966 Kaiser-Jeep M35A2 2-1/2 ton 6x6 w/winch. Bone stock, which is 465 inch (7.6 liter)Hercules multifuel turbodiesel, 5 speed rockwell transmission, 2 speed Rockwell T-case,Rockwell top load axles (6.72:1 ratio) rolling on ten 9.00R20 NDT's (9.0" wide, 40" tall). At tax time, it's getting super singles in the rear so I can run on 6 14.5R20 Michelin XLradials (14.5" wide, 44" tall and friggin' NASTY!). She weighs over 14,000 pounds with a full tank and one occupant,so it bites down pretty good. And it gets 8.5mpg in town, 10 on the highway! (not too bad for 40 year old technology moving a 7 ton beast, though top speed is 60 and it gets really mad over 50). Oh yeah, the 6x6 is automatic ala underdriven front axle and sprague gears in the T-case.

Try searching out the junkyards for a 4 by 4 ,most of them had posi rears.Swap in a posi, add a little weight(on almost any pickup) and feather the throttle.I used to drive my 92 LE in the snow and it had a 4 inch stroke motor (408 ci) ,Real torque monster.

Yea I'm probly gonna go with a posi diff or lsd because I read up on lockers and a lot of people complained how it drives and the noise it makes so I'm gonna get some new tires pref with white wall lettering and see how she drives in the snow and that will determind what I do from there.
