do you mean ratio for 3.25's. if this is the case i think they where offered in different ratios for 3.25's. depending if you got a towing package or not. 270-1, 310-1, 355-1 (standard on most dak 4x4's) and 390-1 for towing. i could be wrong about this (check with the dealer) but thats a good guess. if you want to lower your gears fox for tourque go with the390-1's. if you want speed go for the 270 or 310-1's. i had a jeep comanchie 4.0 high outputwith 270-1 gears, blew everything offthe highway, but it sucked off-road. barely hauled an alum. boat. then i had an lj80 susuki with 410-1 gears, top speed was 45 mph., but it could haul *** off-road, pretty sure i climbed a small mountian with it. i'm not sure but i think the 270-1 was jeep only.

i keep thinking ratio's (3.25) not size (8.25) anything that reads 3.25 in my previous thread should be 8.25

The simple answer is yes the rear end cover is the same all the way back to the beginning. There is a difference in the gears on some of the later stuff that has the exciter ring for anti lock brakes.Other than that nothing much changed.

yes the outer axle on a 8.25 is the same on all dodges, except some have 10 in backing plates and some have 9.25 plates. but the gears inside are different. you wan't to blow your neighbours off the road, go 310-1 witha locker. if you waqnt to haul some weight go 390-1. the 8.25 in your truck and the one you bought my look the same as the 340 dodge on the cover of the cars "heartbeat city" but there not the same. do you know what the ring gear to pinion ratio is? 355-1, 310-1, or 270-1 you got ripped. 390-1 or even rarer 410-1 are worth there weight in gold.
sorry dude, hate to ruin your day, but i tried to worn you about ratios.

i think the 410-1 was a 8.75 ring gear. not sure check with the dealer. know it was not a 9.00 gear because that was ford's domain.
