96 3.9 does not want to idle
i have 96 auto 3.9 and it will start great and runs good but it you take your foot off the gas at a light it will shut off
no sputtering or missing just flat out die like the key is turned off but key is still it will recrank of you give it some gas but you have to keep your foot on the gas.
i had a check engine light for a bank one sensor reading slow but i have also had this code for some time not and just not gotten around to replacing the sensor also the first time this happend to me was the day i got it back from paint and was playing with my radio and was found that the 5amp ing draw fuse in the power distrobution box under the hood that day i also had to jump the truck off to start it.
there for im not sure were to begin
im sorry im not very good with typing so it might be a lil rough
thanks

I'm having the same issue, but haven't made any changes to anything. If I let off the gas very gradually, almost where it stalls out, it will then kick back in gear and idle correctly. I have had no luck getting answers from anyone locally. I did a tune up on it and it ran fine for about 2 months but now i'm back to where I was, and it's no fun trying to get it to idle when it's 20 outside.
Also, from time to time it will start up and run fine until I have to shut it off. Seems very random.
My only thought was perhaps it may be the O2 sensor, but since I'm no mechanic & they aren't cheap, I thought I would try here first.
Thoughts/suggestions?

Does the problem get worse when this cold outside? There was a thread here some where with nearly the same problem and he replaced the crank positioning sensor to solve the problem.
test your battery, then test the Idle Air Control, then test your crank position sensor.

Clean the throttle body since you are going to be in that area.. and the IAS (idle air sensor) can be cleaned as well if it is tested working..just spray carb cleaner and get the soot off. be very gentle with the tapered point..
Check the MAP sensor and TPS as well since they are all there..
Troubleshooting a problem with a previously known problem is not advisable.. I would fix that O2 sensor issue first since you know that is broken for a fact and start the no idle troubleshooting.
