Default is this a good deal?

i have found a 1996 Dakota sport 2wd 5 speed for $1800.00it has air,bed liner,am-fm cass with 4 speakers(volume does not work well)sliding rear window-no lock on the sliding window.the milage is about 230,000 i did not start it bc the catalic converter was stolen.one thing i did not like was the fan had a wire(yellow)not hooked to the battery and was leaking at the bottom of the steering column.he is getting a used converter and will get the wire fixed.the paint is red and bad on top of cab,the lf door in 2 places has metal showing and the tail gate is bad paint, and both front fenders has the clear off but still has paint.the headliner is hanging down and it is very dirty inside.only little rust is on front fender where the fender and spoiler meets.what do i need to look for bad things and how is the motor for this size truck thanksany and all info will be helpful

unless you want a perpetual project truck I would skip it.

I agree...pass it up. I only paid $1100 for a 95 4wd, but then again, this one is a project truck.
There are better deals out there than the one you found.

I would skip it. I bought my 1990 dak with only 173,000kms on it 3.9 5peed bucket seats, sunroof, for only $900. you will find a better deal out there.

i bought my 88 for 400$, sure it needs alot of cosmetic work, but all of the major mechanical things are fine. I dont really care how it looks... it doesnt even have a radio but I dont care. I use it as a work truck. I would skip it.

i would get it. the motor doesnt make enough power to break any of the drivetrain so it is all good. dodge was terrible back than with paint so that is normal. hes getting the fan wire fixed so there is nothing to worry about. if the powersteering works than there is a bad hose, nothing big. i have a dakota i paid 1000 dollars for, automatic 200,000 miles. ive had it for 6 years and now it has over 300,000 on it. i would buy it

I would skip it. He may have pointed out the things he wanted you to know about but there are probably other problems he didn't let you in on. Why would he put on a used cat converter when a new one runs under $100? If he came down a few hundred on the price and you could hear the engine run and drive it then I'd consider it...

the salesman said i could start it up but i did not bc it would be loud.i have heard he is very honest.i have found a 92 dakota 4wd auto for $2500.00 and the paint is worse and has some custom strips on the side and top.the mileage is 176000 and a 318 and it is missing the front spoiler and the bumper is beat up.also i have found a 1987 2wd dakota for $1500.00 with a v6 and the mileage on the truck is 300,000 and dont not what it is on the motor and was told has a good paint on itthe prices on truck where i live at is high,i have seen beds rusted big time for over $2000.00 and up cant find nothing i want for $1000.00
