96 5.2L Magnum V8 Gas mileage??????
I inherited my Dakota from my uncle, I thought it was the best truck ever until I started a job 22miles away and now I pay an arm and a leg every week in gas. I have replaced some things recently and I am hoping I get better mileage. Just wondering what is normal or at least what other people average. Also any suggestions for better gas mileage (besides keeping your foot off the gas) would be great!!!!
my 89 v6 got much better mileage when i upsized the tires and added a tonnuea cover. went from about 14 mph to just over 17 on the highway. the bigger tires made a difference on the highway in a positive direction, but backroad/city driving the milegae dropped. most of my driving is on the highway
ive got the V-8 and im gettin around 12 or 13 mpg's in the city, dont do any highway driving right now, because im a student, but i will be making a 200 mile round trip everyweekend that is 95% highway when i start working in late march or early april. i built a wood frame and put a tarp over the bed (in place of a 150 dollar tannuea cover) because i dont have the money for that, lol.
I usually get around 300 miles with a 22 gal tank. As I said before I have changed a few things....all 8 fuel injectors have been replaced, fuel pump and filter replaced, distributor cap, spark plugs and wires all replaced, and i just found out that the TPS is bad and replaced that as well. Can't wait to get my truck back and test it out!
ya same here 12-13 intownhighway 14-15
You can try replacing spark plugs wires cap and rotor clean out injetors fuel filter air filter. all that kind of stuff. you might get some more

The MAP [manifold abosolute pressure; we have this in place of mass air flow] sensor and oxygen sensors can also have a good effect.
The MAP sensor is located on the throttle body.
What are some specs on the truck? (Tire size, 4x4?, does it have a lift... etc?)
City, I average 12, highway, depends on the speed, but usually nothing less than 16. Rarely above 18. (Although typical speed for highway is 75-85)

I have a 1996 V8 4x2 with stock wheels and tires. Everything is stock basically..
Replace radiator and hose and serpentine belt with 180 t-stat and autolite spark plugs and air filter.
It has 120,000 miles and I average 13mph.
My fuel guage doesn't work so i just pump at every 200 miles to be safe.
