Not much made for the 3.9s. You could run a better muffler for some better flow and a little bit of gains. I would avoid any kind of chips for it. Run better gearing in it. 3.90s

A V6 in these heavy trucks really won't run well due to the weight. You could always super/turbo charge it.

i would get a K&N air filter, 180 degree thermostat(the 160 if you dont care about gas milage, but i still get around 16-18 in the city), and exahust upgrade like onebadkota said. but it still will be no power house, that is why i am doing the v8 swap!!!

Wow you think the 3.9 is underpowered for the dakota's[sm=smiley13.gif]. I've a 3.9 in mine I have the 3.90 rearend with manual trannie I can drag around just about anything. My gas mileage is good I can average 24mpg on the highway at 70 mph I usally get about 17mpg in the city. I hate to see what you have to say about the I4[sm=smiley24.gif]

One thing you can if you have alot miles on it you should get the injectors cleaned and serviced this will restore some power. definetely get a K&N filter another one is get a set of Bosh plus 4 sparkplugs. Get a good flow thru muffler. these will give a little more power you'll notice but nothing spectacular.

the v6 was fun for me, i would imagine a 5 speed and 3.90s would be pretty fun! but power is addicting and i had reached the limit of the 3.9.

Yeah, it lacks power. Towing is torque. The gas mileage is good, and so it the towing, but to straight out run someone, it lacks. Depending on the year, 175HP was the max on a Gen II.
