1992 Dodge Dakota 4x4
I am thinking of buying anice little used pickup, I was wondering what(if any) these paticular models have problems with. How are the 4x4 transfer cases, and all the 4x4 componets? I was also wondering if this paticular truck was worth $2750.00, it has the magnum v6 3.9L, this would be my first car so whats these goods and bads on these?
These trucks are great if taken care of. It only depends on if it was well matianed or beaten on. Check KBB.com for sale prices.
They came out with magnum engines 92-up so these are the more popular ones, but the older one are still good if keeped in shape.
The engines are strong trannys strong tranfercase strong diffs storng

the transfer cases are pretty well the same on all models, they are all chain driven new process. this includes dodge, ford, chev. jeep, except for minor changes in the number of splines. the 3.9 is unbeatable as far as i'm concerned, mine has had the crap kicked out of it and it still lives (250000 miles). the weak point (if any) is the transmission. keep the fluid changed on a regular basis and it should last.
my truck has probably had the hardest life out of any on here ( before i bought it). 420.xxx KM on it. 318 auto.
the amount of green rot i cut out of the wires under the hood was unreal.
the floors seem to like to rot out around the ebrake cable/body mounts.
the T-case is ****ed. cant even use the 4x4 anymore ( getting new one in the summer)
needed new front axles.
beside that the only thing ive done is fluid changes and front brakes. i dont know how dodge did it, but this dakota is still living.

Nice truck... simplicity is always the way to go. MB can’t even build a AMG nowadays without any liability issue.
I have a few problems over the years: gas meter fluctuating, power doors can only lock, Power mirrors occasional malfunction, low gas mileage (consider its weight and a V8), transmission fluid leaking from under the truck (eventually it was fixed). Otherwise, this truck really rocks. It has powerful engine (you can easily spin the rear wheels [sm=exactly.gif]), strong towing ability (we towed a 24’ boat to Lake Tahoe every summer), nice front seats (to me, the only cars I own does not give me a back pain), & a good size (that’s why Dodge called it a mid-size pick-up). Putting up a muffler or modify the exhaust then you are on the go.
Note: $2750 is a bit steep for a V6 even it’s well maintained IMHO (assume less than 100K miles).

they rock i have 1990 SE 4WD V6 3.9138.000 mailes on it wheni got it.i got mine for $2000 so 2750 is a bit much. the only thing i had to replace is the front roters at about $100 or sofor both.it run great its fun to drive and its got power.and mine dosent even have the magnum in it so have fun with it
i bought mine new in 89, has low miles 55000, but they were mostly hard off road miles for the first 30k. last year replaced an idler pulley, a wheel bearing, and the origional plug wires. this year a new radiator and heater core. not bad for nearly 20 years sitting outside in a dirt driveway, not any rust anywhere but the paint is peeling. other than that i do change the fluids often and no realproblems whatsoever.
