I have a 93 Dodge Dakota 4x4 6 cyl and I think my fuel pump is toast...it stopped running suddenly yesterday and after letting it sit for a few minutes, It started up but wouldnt respond to the gas pedal and sputtered and died.. i repeated this a few times with the same result. I then poured some gas into the throttle body below the air cleaner and it fired right up but again it died out 20 seconds later...can anybody tell me if the 93 and 94 fuel pumps are the same model and style? and if the 94 will work on a 93.

I do believe they are the same. Check the connectors with the newer one to see if they match. There is pictures also in the FAQ section. (The link I think is broken right now, Crazy..help?) lol

I will try to fix the link, for some reason a lot of the addresses have been changed.

The connector may be the same but the pump assembly is not. 93-down had an external filer and regulator. The 94 has internal filer and regulator.

It is best to get a new one.

I have a very similar issue as the original post. I have a 94 Dakota 2.5L TBI. It just died while driving, cranks fine but will not start. It has spark and fuel pressure.
I checked for the wire splice but it must not be on the 2.5L. The relays are good. Replace the distributor cap, since it was cheap and needed done, no help.
Thought there might be a short in a sensor and I believe just by coincidence when I removed the oil pressure sensor the truck started. Shut it down, replaced the sensor, started it and let it idle for 5+ minutes, gave it gas and it died, hasn't started since.

Any ideas would be a great help.

hmmm has spark and fuel pressure but will not run? When you changed the distributor cap, did you put the new one on correctly and the wires correctly? If the fireing order is off, it will not run right or at all. (been there, done that)

Have you checked the fuel pressure since it died the last time after running? Fuel pump may be going, I had this problem and the new fuel pump solved the problem.

Thanks for the reply.

Checked for spark before and after the distributor cap change and had it.
Did make sure the wires were replaced correctly. It idled after the cap replacement and seemed fine until I hit the gas.

One odd thing is that I turn the key on and I can hear the fuel pump kick on, turn the key off then back on and it doesn't kick on. It's after waiting for some time that it turns back on with the key again. Not sure if it should come on every time or not. Also I can't find a fuse for the pump, and there is no relay for it in the PDS.

Could the timing be off, not sure how that would have happened though. Unfortunately I can't seem to find a way to test the timing on the 2.5L

I'll look into testing the fuel pump some more.
