Sounds like you may have a different problem than everyone else. Should have started your own thread but thats ok.

I could be wrong but I think once the pump has built up pressure, it will not engage. Only when running or starting after sitting for a bit.

If your timing was off, I would think it would still run but really rough.

You dont have a relay in the PDS? That is weird, maybe your engine type does not require one? I think all of them do tho?

According to the factory manual for 2.5L engines...

FUEL PUMP MOTOR
When the Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
grounds the Automatic Shut Down (ASD) relay and
the contacts close, circuits A14 and A142 are connected.
A 30 amp fuse in cavity D of the PDC protects
the A14 and A142 circuits.
Circuit A142 feeds circuit A141 which feeds circuit
A61. Circuit A61 supplies voltage to the fuel pump
motor. Circuit Z1 provides ground for the fuel pump
motor. The grounding point for the circuit Z1 is left
fender side shield.

Sounds like your fuel pump is engaging tho...

Another thing came to mind... Im wondering if your injectors are firing. Have you tried putting some gas in the intake to see if that will make it run?

Reading your post, "I believe just by coincidence when I removed the oil pressure sensor the truck started." Have you tried to pull the harness off again to see if it will run without the sensor hooked up? So many possibilities, could have a loose or damaged wire, connector or ground.

Also the spark your getting, is it bright blue? It is possible to get spark but not efficiently enough to run.

Thanks for all the info and quick replies oxygen454

I should have started my own thread.

I changed out spark plugs, wires and fuel filter today, just to rule them out, and it fired right up.

I'm hoping it's not just a coincidence like the oil pressure sensor (we did try it with the harness unplugged again).

The old plugs and wires had a pretty good spark and the filter wasn't plugged, but when I blew it out the gas inside was dark in color. We did try putting gas in the intake as well, no change. All I can think is that it was a combination of things or there is a loose wire somewhere that works when it wants to, hope that's not it and all is well.

I'll be sure to come back if the problem returns.

Thanks again.

It started up today and made it 8 miles back home running fine, but then it chugged and died in the driveway and won't start again.

I'll start a new thread tomorrow.

Back home? As in you drove it to work/store and it died when you got back?

It broke down on the road last week so we towed it to a friends place and worked on it there.
So today was the day to bring it back home. Thankfully I made it, seemed to drive fine, but as it idled in the driveway, after the 8 mile trip, it sputtered and died and won't start again.

hmmm... so it ran fine on the way home. How did it run at stop signs and red street lights? Sounds like its warming up and kicking out. Did it sputter out with out giving it gas? And how long did it idle before it died? This is a weird issue, curious to figure out the problem. Im surprised that Crazy4x4 hasn't jumped in or anyone else yet lol?

I wonder if a temp sensor or knock sensor is sending info the the ECU to shut down? Or the ECU it self? Any check engine lights / codes? And does your idiot lights come on when you go to start the truck? Need lots of description as we cannot see or hear whats happening. Im thinking its a sensor issue. Maybe TPS? not sure...

It drove fine, didn't give me any trouble at stop signs. Got a belt that squeaks when I come to a stop with the heater blowing.

After I got home it started sputtering shortly after I parked it, hit the gas and it settled down then sputtered again and died. Probable idled for a minute.

Check engine light is off but I checked for trouble codes today and it's showing a 17 which I think is a bad thermostat or coolant sensor. Maybe there is a short in the sensor, I'll look into that in the morning. Also, the temperature gauge has never worked but the heater blows hot so I never worried about it. It was showing a 21, an O2 sensor code, when it first broke down.

Maybe if I start a new thread it will draw more attention, let me know if you think I should.

Thanks again for sticking with me.

Thats funny you mentioned your coolant sensor. My fiances VW golf had a heck of a bad idle and miss when driving, turned out to be a faulty coolant sensor.
