Default ABS and Brake light on

on my '95 dakota.. They popped on after spinning my tires profusely in loose dirt. I had an extended cab silverado on my tow dolly and was trying to get going with a semi-jack-knifed trailer and up a decent sized dirt hill.

I gave the truck a quick once over.. There appears to be adequate fluid in the m/c and the speed sensor in the diff is intact (speedo works still) What am i missing? Does a combination of both lights mean something? Is there a flash test for the ABS light??

If it helps, the truck is a '95 2wd sport with a 318/5 speed

not sure about a flash test for abs.

does it have 4 wheel abs or rear wheel abs? if its 4wabs ittl set a code cuz 2 are rolling and 2 are not. really freaks the abs controler out. id just disconnect the battery for a few to clear the codes and see if they come back on.

man i wish my truck had a 5spd! the way the auto is valved is kinda aggravatin'. it goes for third as quickly as it can! suppose its better for mpg, but still.

well it turns out both the lights were on because the stop light fuse was on.

So, if you have these lights on your dash lit up, very good chance you have no brake lights.

I feel stupid for not checking sooner!

So on another forum i saw a guy saying that the lights came on when he was hooked up a trailer and his brake lights shorted. But that is not the case with my 96 3.9. They are both on, which they both come on in tandem. I need to check out some more wiring stuff but my question is could it be on because of a leak? The place where the brake line runs to the back and then runs into some kind of T item on the axle is leaking in the T it looks like. Could that cause these lights to come on? thanks

I have this same problem every now and then. After it sitting for a few days, or after a good run at the mud, the ABS and Parking brake/emergency brake lights are both on. I just ignore it and they usually turn off. Once, I disconnected the battery for a little bit (I did an hour, half hour should be fine). While you've disconnected the battery, check the black case on the driver's side of the engine compartment which the lid pops off. Check the sticker on the top of the lid to see where the ABS and Brakes are, pull out the switch and put it back in. This should help, if you haven't fixed this already.

Has it stayed on or has it gone away? Like I said, mine usually goes on randomly or when the brakes get wet. (1993 Dakota 5.2l v8 4spd auto, 4x4)
