Default torsion bar question

i have a 95 dakota 4x4 and i went to ajust the torsion bar earlyer today and ive never worked with torsion bars and my driver side had about half inch of thread and the passenger side had an inch and a half of thread but both tires were at the same height and i could only get a inch of lift on it before it was as tight as it would go and i was just wondering if this was normal and was wondering if ther was anthing i could do to get atleast 2 inches

I had the same problem a couple days ago with my 95 dakota. I got a closer look at it and realized one of the bars was bent. If you get the wheels aligned they adjust the torsion bars if need be, so im assuming it got aligned with the bent bar and they ran up the bolt to get the truck sitting level again. I ordered a new bar to replace the bent one.

I looked around for aftermarket but didnt find any, so i had to go with oem dodge bars. The 2000 lb bars on the v8s are over $200 a peice. I dont know the exact price cause i get a discount through the collision repair shop i work at. I'm alsonot sure about the cost of the 1450 lb bar found on the v6. If you dont have any luck finding them aftermarket you might have to call the nearest dodge dealership.

you have a weak torsion bar. it needs to be replaced. the threads on my 89 are equal, the measurment from the lower control arm pivot to the outer end of the control arm are about 1and1/4 inch on both sides
