running crappy
hey kinda new here been a member for awhile just really never get on here. anyways my 91 dakota is running crappy. it runs real rough at idle like at a light and somtimes stalls i cant figure it out i thought maybe it might be EGR related. it also runs almost hot a light after you drive it a few miles i just replaced the thermostat, and i flushed it out really good replaced the radiator cap and a leaky freeze plug and the head gaskets i got no leaks now thank god any ideas im lost.
i replaced the egr valve and it did help with alot of problem but when i disconnected the air switching solenoid it totally fixed it.
thanks

thats what im doing now except i leave it in drive i did clean the fuel injecters it did help still have the problem thow. my question is how do tell if its egr valve the transducer or the solinoid. if thats even the problem.
is your check engine light on? if it is go to FAQ 1 and it will tell you what is wrong. if it is not then it probably is the egr itself. take out the two bolts that hold it in, lift it off and look for carbon plugging up the hole in the intake manifold or in the valve itself. if it's totally plugged in either clean it out, put it back on and try it. if none of this works replace the egr.
to be sure about the valve you can attach a vaccuum tester to see if the rod that comes out of the valve moves fully when you remove the air. (any garage can test it for you, probably for free, it only takes 5 seconds).
if yours is spitting out black water it's running rich, good sign of an egr problem, with all the other symptoms you described.
