Emissions?
Real simple question. I drive an 87 dakota 4x4 3.9L truck and is in the shop right now fixing the front end suspension. I need to get an emmisions test on it but the previous owner cut out the cv axle so there is no 4x4 drive.(i quess to make room for a lift it has, don't really know.) Would i still take it through the 4x4 emmisions line or the standard 2 wheel drive line. Also what would be some cheap fixs before i go to get it tested so it has a better chance to pass?
If there is no possible way for the 4x4 to kick on, which it can't without the shafts, then it'll be fine in the regular lane. I took my '95 (back when Il still required emissions testing on my truck), on the two wheel drive lane and there were no issues, they just told me to make sure I was not in 4wd.
Before you go to the test, run the computer codes, the computer will tell you what emissions systems on your truck will need attention before you go into the test.

make sure to get the engine hot before going to the station, and if there is a line there, keep the truck running to keep it hot while you wait. heres a list of cheap things that can be done. i just passed my last emmisions test, just safety tests for here on

california requires emission on all cars except diesels from 1976 to presant. Of course thx to the terminator diesels in 2010 will also have to subject to smog tests. But I can't complain if you seen our air quality here in the valley its disgusting
I guess i should have realized california still required it. In North Carolina anything obdI and older only requires a safety inspection.
