So only the Sport must have had the non-raised letters?

 

For those who like flat/straight tail gates, this site builds custom tailgates with recessed licence plate holders and lights ect. This link is also in the FAQ2.

After checking the parts manual and all, the raised letter tailgates were offered 94-up when the flat style came out too.

 

Kind of pricey, I think I will obtain one from a junkyard and recess the plate myself personally.

When the raised letters were offered too? They have been raised since 87?

Anything particular to look for on the 94+ for a flat gate? (SLT, 4x4, Sport, etc)

 

Raise letter 87-93 all.
94-96 yes but some possibly only 94.
Some raise came with reflective lettering on top.

Flat with 3rd Brake light 94-96 some. With a small DODGE decal on the upper left side.

The raise 94-up tailgates may have the 3rd brake light.
