Default trans cooler question

well for starters the forums here are great so much info here
i just bought a 92 4x4 dakota that has had a 4' body lift well it seems it wasn't done the correct way so the radiator was up and not secure and the fan got a hold of one of the trans cooler lines and made a mess its not fixable tho the radiator is fine i was going to buy a new one but everyone is telling me to just get a aftermarket trans cooler and it would do fine i was under the impression that it needs the trans cooler that is built in the radiator and a aftermarket trans cooler to do a good job i dont mind buying both just dont want to if i dont need too

If the radiator is fine the internal trans cooler should be fine also, however you can get a trans cooler fairly cheap and plug the trans into that instead. You don't NEED a second trans cooler, but I recommend it to keep your tranny from getting too hot, especially when towing or hot rodding. '92 and '93 transmissions are hard to come by for the 4wd's if yours goes out, just to let you know, I'm having this difficulty with my '92 4x4. '91 and earlier will not work and nor will a '94/'95/'96. So whatever you can do to keep it from quitting on you, do it.

It deffently is better to have both types of coolers. But if needed the non radiator one would work. Bud if you carry heavy loads or driving hard or uphills, or towing. You need that extra cooler to keep the trans from burning up. Accully 92-96 are the same according to autozone.com

i would run both coolers, run the aftermarket in the return line to the tranny after the stock cooler. and a 4 inch body lift sounds unsafe to me........lol.
