Default V10 swap?

has anyone attempted to swap an old 8.0L V10 into a dakota. i have a 96 dakota with the 5.2 auto. its got almost 140,000 and still runs good but i really don't like the trans. at highway speeds it will randomly downshift out of overdrive and will not go back in for a while, even if i slow down let of the gas nothing. So i was thinking of trying to put a V10 5 speed in it. i know that the v10 is approx 4 inches longer than the small block and was wondering if anyone has attempted this. Thanks

The truck v10 will be (as far as I know) is the same exteriorliy the same as the viper v10. For 1st gen I havnt seen any with viper engines. But you could be the first. The closest would be gen 2. Here are a few post of it. You can do a search to get lots more info.

do it, that would be insane! I expect a build thread haha .... the only thing id really be concerned about is the length of it, it will probably be a tight fit......Correct me if im wrong but didnt the older dakota shelby's that had the 318 use electric fans because a clutch fan system wouldnt fit and in 91 they changed something so it would fit. Although if that is the case it really is only 2 inch's... skinny little electric fans would fix that

The frame would need some beefing up just for the torque alone, but it's possible. Length would be a problem, but you could always get around that with an e-fan setup

i really dont thing it would be worth the money, but i am an anti v-10 person, they sound retarded. it would take some serious fab work and dollas too. but like others have said, no one else has done it to a 1st gen, it would be a show stopper i done right!

wonder what a mopar v12 would sound like if they did what they did with v10's... just add 2 cylinders. man that'd be like a 10l

then again, it might not sound like a mopar at all, they'd prolly just steal a 6.0l from the AMG plant XD
