Default Power Windows

Would it be possible to swap out the hand crank windows for power windows? What would a process like this entail?

My 2000 Dak got totaled out and im looking at a 96 Dakota 5.2 4x4 with only 56,000 on it or 5k. Ive been spoiled with my power accesories and am just wondering if it is possible, and reasonable.

Thanks

It's possible. They make universal kits. But the best way would be go to a junkyard and get the entire setup from another Dakota and swap it in.

I've been wondering about this myself. As long as you get all the wiring from the donor truck, all you have to do is plug it into the fuse block right? I know that sounds simplistic but, in a nut shell.

I put the universal kit in my 90 about 15 years ago. Still working. Is a lot to it, like mounting and wireing, the up/dowm switches. Not a lot of room working in the door and i don't know if the gear aparatus to make the window move is the same, crank vs auto. You will also have to deal with the hole left behing from the crank handle. The kit gives you a cover plate..

by going to a junkyard you have the chance of getting power window door panels also.

I'm wondering if the wiring is already in your truck. A lot of times at the factory, they typically put the wiring in whether the truck has the options or not. You should check to see if the wiring is there.

And +1 on the door panels, you'll want to look for ones that don't have the hole for the window crank and do have the hole for the power window switch.

I've often wondered that too. When I removed the bottom half of my dash to paint it I found a bunch of connectors that weren't connected to anything. I haven't checked the doors but, I can do that since I have to replace the speakers anyway. The rubber boot is already there for the speaker wires so...who knows, I might get lucky.

typically, it will all be there. saves the car manufactures money just making 1 harness (x) amount of times, vs. making more types of harnesses less amount of times each
