Id first have to say to make sure the compresser is running, if you want you could open the hood with the engine running and turn the AC on and at least make sure the compresser is going and the clutch works, if it does it will cycle on and off

He guys I'm new to the forum..

I owned a 1st gen 95 neon and recently got car jacked for my jeep so I decided to look for a car. I ran into a 2000 chrysler neon for a decent price in an immaculate shape. So I bought it but today with the half-decent weather it was the first time I tried the A/C.

It does not work.. Where can I start looking? I am not familiar with A/C systems at all..

Could it be a leak? Possibly just needs a refill? How can I find out before getting ripped at a shop?

Thanks for all the info..

you may want to ask in the neon section.

The hissing sound is normal. It's the high pressure side "leaking" into the low pressure side through the orifice. The Neon, Caravan and Cherokee all do it, and I am pretty sure the Dakota did it way back when. Dakota just needs a charge to work, leaks at connections, over 200K on original compressor.

But I don't think there is a leak because it's still ice cold. Does anyone else get a similar noise?

And your right Crazy, this section has been dead all day! We were going strong all week... what happened?
Mine does the same - think its just internal pressure decreasing and we here it audibly, but no leaks . . .

The AC on my truck didn't work when I got it. Some poking around with a DVOM revealed I did have pressure in the system and I narrowed it down to the blower fan switch since the AC swicth runs through the blower fan switch and I only had "high" fan speed too. Dodge wanted $279 for the dash control unit, I picked one up from a junkyard for $50 and everything works great now.

Default I think My compressor is dead

I had it running pretty well, then it only blew slightly cold air. I decided to make sure the conversion was done correctly (previous owner did it), I took the compressor off to flush change the oil and the rear side of the high pressure line did not make pressure against my finger. The high side only gets to about 35PSI, like only one side is running. So i think it's dead. Any one agree?

I found out mine had been converted to 134A and we (me and my dad) were going to refill it today but there was a couple problems with the can adapter with the hose on it
first i want to know how hazardus is the refrigerent to people if it gets on you or breathed in, because we put the can on the adapter and it started leaking right where it was scrued to the can and it sprayed some of the liqued out and was also slitly leaking from the end of the hose and what made it worse was that the end of the hose didnt either fit on or grab onto the low pressure valve tip so we didnt have anything to do wih it accept for leave it on the gravel to drain out but with those cans being over 6.50 apeice that pissed me off
