Well step one is to scrap the 318 and get a 360, cause you can't make a 408 out of a 318.

Here is a list of engine sizes that you can build...

(Crazy, can you copy this chart into FAQ2?)

Once you get the 360 block, you'll need to get it bored .030 over and then assemble the bottom end. Then you'll need to decide what you want to run with the valvetrain. Then you'll need to get your computer reflashed (unless you plan on running a carb)

If you're not interested in getting a 360, you're looking at building a 390 stroker with the 318. You'll need a stroker rotating assembly for the 318, but the link you provided will not do any good on your 318.

I haven't done any reading on this... but would that chart imply that the limit is 70 over?

Yes. I made that chart in excel, and I've never seen any pistons more than .070 over, so thats where I stopped. Even at .070 over you'll severely weaken the sidewalls of the cylinders, and you'll need a machine shop to sonic test the block to make sure it can handle it. Most people consider .030 over or less to be the most reliable overbore.

318's are only good for 390s or 402s. As said, you would need a 360 block.

You can't even get up to a 402 without finding a 4.18" crank with 318 mains. The highest you can get (like my chart says) is 398 with a 4 inch crank.

If anybody can find a 4.18" crank with 318 mains, give us the link! But the problem with a 4.18" crank is that the block will have to be clearanced to allow that stroke. A factory block can accept a 4 inch crank without modifying.

I wouldn't post if it wasn't possible. There's a couple 402s out there. Sorry to step over your chart.

Check out Speedomotive, I know they do alot of stroker kits.

Ok... I checked out your source and here is what it says...

HIGH NODULAR 4.000" CRANKSHAFT
5140 FORGED 6.123" I-BEAM RODS w/ ARP BOLTS
CUSTOM FORGED PISTONS
*ANY COMPRESSION RATIO (+.090 SAFE FOR TYPICAL BORE TO 4.000" ON EARLY 1957-1966)*
TOTAL SEAL MOLY RING SET
CLEVITE MAIN & ROD BEARINGS
So yes, you are correct in that you can get a 318 to a 402, but not our 318s. That says specifically ONLY the '57-66 POLY 318s can handle the .090 overbore required. I did not go to that high of an overbore on my chart because our magnum engines cannot handle it. You're basically taking a 318 and boring it to the stock 360 bore, which is a stupid idea IMO cause if that motor overheats one time you'll be buying a block, whereas with a 360 built 402 you don't need to worry about weakened cylinder walls. I would personally never recommend anybody bore a motor even .070 over even though thats what my chart goes up to. You just about need a flawless block to handle that much of an overbore.

Next time do research before you call me out, cause I am building a motor and I have done the research in the past few months. I also don't post unless I strongly believe it to be true, but I'll admit when I'm wrong.
