If after putting the proper torque on it, if it still leaks, replace the plug and washer.
Or at least try replacing the washer.
The plug, as I remember, is 1/2-20 (one half inch by 20 threads per inch)
It has a weird rubber-type thing kind of built into the head of the bolt. I drained the oil, cleaned everywhere (threads, area around hole), replaced it, and refilled the oil and its still slowwwwley leaking. My mom's gonna snap when she sees the oil stains on the driveway.
PS, Blowing winds is not a great time to do an oil change outside.
Sorry, I meant replaced it as in put it back in. I was thinking about just throwing some RTV on it, but im a stickler for detail. I couldn't rest easy knowing it isn't 'proper'. I think im going to get a new bolt and try that. Do I need the special one with the gasket thing? Or can I just use a new bolt with a rubber washer of some sort?
I would recommend against putting plumbers tape (PTFE/Teflon) on the threads.
Just use a new bolt, a new rubber washer. If it still leaks, use RTV over the bolt head.
I put in the new bolt with a bit of RTV. Will check it tomorrow - hopefully no leaks. Why do you recommend against using plumber's tape on the threads? (Beside's getting innacurate torque readings)
