Default mystery code...????

my 4 318 keeps throwing a 36 code and its starts mising at idle a tad bit. not bad but you can notice..! when your driving it does fine but at idle it starts kinda idleing a lil ruff. also i can here like bubble sounds comming from the exhaust but anyway beats me...?? the cat is fine i thought it was my egr valve replaced the whole thing and the gaket still the same thing o i think its the o2 sensor anybody have an idea....?? help...???!!!

According to my Haynes book, code 36 is "Air switching solenoid circuit".

What year is your Dakota? It sounds to me like something to do with a smog pump (91 and older) but I'm not sure.

94 i know it idles up and down when it gets warmed up then it throws the 36 code do you know were is the air switch solenoid....??? and smog pump...???

94 doesn't have a smog pump so I'm out of ideas...

Are you sure it is 36. You may want to recheck. According to the list we got and my service manual there is no 36. Check out the FAQ in this section to check them Correctly.

we also have black soot coming out the tail pipe....and when i gun it down the interstate
exhuast smoke comes out but it never use ta come out that strong before is it runnin rich or sumthin...???

Ya it is rich. Recheck the codes. A bad O2 sensor can case this.
