Default will it bolt up?

Right now, I have a 95 dodge dakota 4x4, with a v6, i really want to swap it for a 318 ci V8, but the truck that id be buying it off of is a 2wd, so I dont know if my tranny will bolt up to a v8???? Has anyone tried this or know if it will work?

It will bolt up but over time the tranny will go to hell and need a rebuild because the V6 tranny cant handle all the horsepower/tourque the V8 puts out though is the engine your getting a 92 or newer because your truck is from the magnum era

I am in the process of doing the very same thing you are attempting. The problem I have is that the tranny is a 2WD trans and I need 4WD. I am going to try and swap tailhousings on the NV3500 with a 4WD tailhousing and have my output shaft cut down and resplined. I have yet to find somone who has attempted this so we will see.

The 2WD tranny will not have the tailhousing to bolt up to your transfer case. So I just deleetd all of that, not sure if you have manual or not. Anyways, you would need to find a 4WD tranny or probably move your tranny cross member and modify the driveshaft maybe, therefore giving up 4WD.

And to answer your initial question, yes the V6 will bolt up but Zack is correct in saying it will not last long behind the 318.

I was lookin up some stuff, and yea your right it will bolt up. I want to buy this guys truck its '93 2wd v8 318c, automatic, and mines 95 4wd v6, 3.9 automatic. What I was planning on doing was just using the motor out of the 93, and keepin my tranny and tcase, and if there were any modifications i would have to do id do them, I have lots of help, Im working at emortal customs which is a really high end mechanics shop, and they had told me it will work but it wont handle forever with the A500 tranny, but I mean its just a project I want to attempt and I can keep looking for a A518 Tranny thats actually meant for the 318. But until then I think im goin to try and attempt it, because the 318 this guys selling only got 160K compared to my 356K. So its a big difference, AnD i dont think this tranny that I got is going to last very long anyways, I mean I dont know how long transmissions will last for without rebuilds but i think its almost my trannys time, well atleast not long after the motor swap.

And what about computer, and wiring? I dont know if I am confident I know enough about everything to take this on, but Im sure with all your guys' help Ill be able to do it!

Im going to be in the same basic situation but for me it will be easier because mines an older LA style engine and i plan on putting and in the process of buying an LA 318 and Tranny though with mine its easier because theres less computer sh*t to deal with
Thats one of the reasons why im not to bothered about swapping it
