see what the CFM is on the carb, it is smaller than a v8 2 barrel i will almost bet you. it may run but would not have much power if it does. and i dont think the coil is any different than the v6 one, the magnums use the same coil and so do most. it is probably just a different distributor, but i am not sure. when i did my engine swap i used one of the parts places web sites to cross match everything, since i had no one to ask....

Actually i just looked on another site and it said (i dont know if its correct) that some of the 318s in 87 used the same carbs as the 3.9s in 87 which was a Holly 6280 but the 318 carbs might of had bigger jets according to the site
Though this would only be temporary unless i find another carb in the junkyard to put on before i put an engine in

I guess my question would by why pull a running motor to put in something bigger and use parts that "might" work.

Does the motor you are getting not have a carb? I bet you could sell your v6 and get at least enough to buy a decent carb meant for the v8.

Well the engine im possibly buying is a 1979 318 that has a carb but i think its an older style 4 Barrel probably with a manual choke and id rather have the style ive got now which is a somewhat electronic and vacume controlled carb (with an automatic choke and few sensers and controls that i dont have to adjust too often because it adjusts itself) and i dont want to have horrible gas milage though i do want to have decent power until i start modifying it
though i plan on getting a newer carb from the 80s and having that modified to put out more power with decent gas milage and put it in
and by the way me and a buddy plan on going through the whole thing and rebuilding it if needed before putting it in

i would definatly get rid of the carb with sensors on it and go for a manual choke 4 barrel! carbs withh sensors and stuff on them are a pita when stuff starts going wrong, and it just more stuff to rewire and diagnose. i know when i put my 318 in i did not do it for the gas milage! if you just want a stock daily driver then its really not worth all the trouble you are going to have to go trough in my opinion.

Well i just want to get the gas milage im all ready getting, or better which last time i calculated was about 12MPG city and 18MPG or little more on highway with the 3.9 though my carb needs to be cleaned, just havent gotten to it yet,
and i want more power with the 318 for the money because i was told it will cost a sh*t load to modify the hell out of the 3.9 and it still wouldnt push out the amount of power i think it should for the size and theres alot more i can do for upgrading the 318
and the reason id want the electric controlled carb over the manual is because i dont want to have to deal with it running like sh*t in crappy weather or having to adjust and tune it several times a year just for it to run right
