What is needed for a 3.9V6 to 318 Swapp
Im getting pretty serious about getting a 318 and i was wondering what is needed for it to run and be capable with my trucks system
Like possibly am im goin to need the 318s altenater or use my 3.9s altinater?,Is there going to be any power difference in usage with everything?,
Could i use my 3.9s Carburater with the 318 without losing too much power and possibly gaining some MPG?
Am i going to beable to put my engines outside equipment on the 318 like A/C compresser, power steering pump esc. . . . .
And anything else that could possibly change that should or would need to be switched

An alternator is an alternator... it doesn't matter if there is a big block turning it or a lawnmower engine, it will put out the same current and voltage and require the same amount of horsepower to turn it. Just because your engine is smaller doesn't mean the rest of the truck needs less electricity to run lights, radio, etc., so they wouldn't put in a smaller one. I don't know much about the pre-magnum setup, but I know that ALL the accessories are the same between the magnum 3.9, 5.2, and 5.9, so there is no reason why the same wouldnt hold true for the pre-magnums.
And the reason FAQs does not have any info on this swap in an '87 is because Dodge did not offer the 318 in the Dakota until '91, and in order to make the 318 fit you are going to have to use a pusher fan mounted in front of the radiator to clear up space. The engine bay on the pre-'91s are shorter.
