Default For those like me who are curious

I looked all over hell and couldnt find the reason that everyone said my 93's transfer case was year specific. I have absolutely no knowledge of what they were like before that. I do however, have knowledge of what changed after.

The output shaft has a different spline count/spacing. The speedo output went from a cable to electronic only.

Gotta go grab a rear shaft from the correct year. The truck I got this off had a boogered up rear shaft.

Guts and shell remain the same.

Ill let you know for sure if everything swaps ok. There is a hose coming off the top of the "newer" case that looks like a one way valve. Its in the same place as the vacuum actuator on the old one. Not sure if that will make a difference yet or not. Ill find out and let you know.

The speedo unit is removable and interchangeable in between the 2 styles. So if you get one different from yours. Just swap it out.

I suppose I should have clarified that, but yes you are correct they do work just fine. I gotta tear the gas tank out of my parts truck and put it in the good one tonight and then tomorrow I can drive the truck for the first time in a few months. It looks goofy, 31"ers on the back some crappy, maybe 30"ers on the front and a 2" lift on the rear and none in front. Im ordering keys, but they havent gotten here yet. Ohh well......its just a really exagerated drag truck right now.

Figured no reason to buy another pair of 31"s when Im just gonna put 33's on as soon as I get my keys anyway.

glad you are about to get it going. i would not be doing to much 4 wheelsing with different size tires though, thats a good way to break stuff.

I wont be doing any 4 wheeling with it as is. I might drive it a little, but Im only going to test my 4wd to ensure it works. The BFG's were given to me by a friend. I can get the other 2 if I want but they are badly worn on the insides. I may do it just for now till I get some 33's I want to run.

Yeah, I agree 110% with Bad96, DON'T put that truck in 4hi or 4lo with different sized tires, even for testing out the new transfer case, you will snap an axle or worse, something inside the new t case.

If you want to test the new t case, put all 4 corners on jack stands and do it in the air. If you roll that truck 10 feet with tires that are that different in size in 4x4, you will break your new t case.

That was the plan. I really just need to know if I have to hook up the vacuum line the way it was on the old case or just leave it the way it was done on the new one. The front is already on stands to make the swap easier, so Ill just toss the back up quickly.

You do have to replace the one way valved line with the original vacuum hose. Other than that works fine. I had to pop the speedo unit out a couple times to get it to work, but its on and going strong now. Not sure if I had it in wrong or what.
