Default got my 90 dakota running

hello all its been a while sense Ive been on but heres an update on my 90 Dakota 2wd it was in a accedent 4 years ago was parked for the 4 till monday when i started to re vamp the old beast about 2 years ago got ahold of a dakota sport and put the hood and radiator suport and all the goodies off that one on mine. my question is what should i replace/change on the truck after it was siting for 4 years? i already replaced the engine coolant ,air filter, windshield wipers , sterio&speakers and fuel injecters and took the tank off and cleaned it out good and replaced the belts and the cap and rotor still need to change the oil. the stuff that was new on it when it got in the wreck was new brakes, tires, computer, and alternator

is there any other fluids i should change or anything i should replace i live near the coast so stuff rusts up pretty easy but in those 4 years the dakota faired pretty well i kept up on washing it to keep moss from growing

heres a link to some pics of it http://s276.photobucket.com/albums/k...ota_freak1989/

Cool! Sounds like you got most of it. But defiantly flush out the brake lines. If you want do all the fuids like rear diff, tranny, power steering. Moisture can get into all even if it is a fully closed system and ruin the fluids. Change plugs and wires.

also theres a smog pump thats makeing a loud clicking noise is there a way to fix this or should i buy a new/used one and wheres a good place to buy one ?

ive been told to just take it off but i think with them raising emission standards i dont want to have to buy all the parts again in the future to put it back on just want it to be ready for the emissions when they hit my state

The air pump is just for emissions. It puts in fresh air to dilute the exhaust gases. So no you don't need it but for emission testing it is necessary. New may be high price so I would say go to the Junkyard. But check www.autozone.com to be sure.

i was told if i take it off the smog pump it'd mess with the sensor on the exhaust and make the truck computer shutdown witch is what happened to me it will crank and start and then shutoff instantly the pump is non salvageable it is like its welded solid it ran great before the pump went south so itll cost 50 bux for a new pump if it makes my truck live then ill buy it lol maybe it has some other effects on the motor/exhaust that we still dont know maybe im wrong maybe not but ill try replacing the pump and see if that makes it run again ill let ya all know when i get the pump installed if it fixed it

It is possible it affected the O2 sensor but that would be before the fresh air hits the exhaust gases. It is possible something else went bad when you started seeing smoke.

TIP: Use a turkey baster to suck out the old fluid from P/S and master cyl.

If its just for emisions what creates a vacume that all the vacume hoses have and need?, i thought the air pump did that and what exactly is a smog pump?
