If you do find one.. do it to the dakota haha.
I actually seen in a forum before where they did swap a deisel.. so it does work, obviously you can make anything work.. But it would be alot of customization. I wish I could find that truck again that had it..

That would be sweet. And if anyone has the room for one you do. Just a ton of modification.

i would need to buy something to get to work with while i was doing something like that to my dak. and then, im not sure if the frame could take it. a lot of areas are pretty thin(lots of rust before i got it coated). i would need to plate the entire frame, but that would probly be true for a jeep aswell.
the CTD straight 6 would be longer than the magnum v8, so the firewall may need to be moved back. anyone know how long a 4.0 jeep motor is? they are a straight 6 too...

The 6BT Cummins IIRC is around 37 inches. A 4BT may be an easier swap.

Hope you don't drive that thing on the street...

A 4BT would be a lot more practical. Want to tow "anything"? Get a full size!

I watched a guy put a 7.3 turbo in a 63 scout. So to answer your question. Yes....it can be done. There are very few 4x4s with a smaller engine bay than those scouts.

I would be too lazy. New engine, transmission, transfer case, fuel tank, fuel lines, motor mounts, transmission crossmembers, driveshafts, springs up front to handle the weight and springs in rear to handle the load. Sigh.....Im getting sleepy just thinking about it. And youd probably want for sure a front axle and probably a rear too. So....basically youd keep the body and the frame, and your frame sounds like its seen better days so........... .

Yup.

Here's what you do. Get a cummins 4BT out of like a bread truck. get the motor plate adapter from a 6BT gen1 cummins and bolt it in. it will work some fabrication for engine mounts, wiring, exhaust. My friend used a 4bt in a 4x4 full size blazer and it was surprisingly stout for towing. empty he was pulling 28mpg all day.
