17 closed loop temp not reached or engine cold too long

41 Generator field not switching properly.

yup. Thermostat and possibly a heater core.

No idea on the generator thing.

Anyone have any ideas for error code 12 & 41?

Sorry I should have addressed 12 as well. Its pretty much universally accepted that 12 is a "begining of codes" code. Nothing to worry about.

Ok, so now I just have to worry about code 41 - any ideas out there?

This is a deciding factor - I am NOT buying this as a project - I am on a VERY limited budget, and need to get a truck to handle utilitarian duties for the household. I cannot afford to buy a truck that I will have off the road for major electrical issues, etc...
